The FDA says it’s about to get a lot harder to get your hands on an Epi Pen.
The shortage is affecting the adult Epi Pen supply, but generic and kids pens are still available. The generic version contains the same lifesaving drug as the brand name, but they might look a little different.
“If you do get a generic, you should understand how to use the pen before you need to use it in an emergency situation. And either your doctor or pharmacist can help you with the new pen to make sure you know how to use it properly,” said Kristy Vadnais, Pharmacy Operations Manager at CHI St. Alexius Health.
Vadnais also says in situations like this, a full recovery usually happens in a couple months.
