CHI St. Alexius Health Statement on Retaining Health Source to Staff the Emergency Department

Staff the Emergency Department

June 20, 2018

St. Alexius Health issued the following statement about the retention of HealthSource, a leading provider of board-certified emergency medicine physicians from large tertiary facilities and trauma centers, to provide board-certified emergency medicine specialists for its emergency department. The contract is effective July 1, 2018.

“CHI St. Alexius Health has signed a contract with HealthSource to manage the professional staffing of the Emergency Department to ensure we do not impact our ability to provide necessary emergent patient care. HealthSource will begin staffing the emergency department with board-certified emergency medicine physicians beginning July 1 and going forward.

"It is of paramount importance that we continue to have a fully staffed ED that provides quality care to Bismarck/Mandan and surrounding communities. CHI St. Alexius and HealthSource will continue our work for a strong future as we meet the needs of our patients and the community in a rapidly changing environment while our hard working, caring and dedicated staff and employees continue to provide quality care to our patients. CHI St. Alexius Health is open and treating patients. This staffing change will not affect our Level 2 Trauma Center status.

“We reached this decision after weeks of efforts at compromise and to come to terms on a new contract with our current Emergency Department of approximately nine physicians. Regrettably, we were not able to reach a new agreement with our ED physicians.

“HealthSource will contact our ED physicians over the next 48 hours to discuss continued work in the ED. HealthSource has agreed to honor the terms of the offer made on June 11.

“While we were not able to achieve a new contract with our current Emergency Department physicians, we hope that each member will consider continuing to work at CHI St. Alexius Health through HealthSource.”
