CHI St. Alexius Health Announces that Employees Must be Vaccinated Against COVID-19
In keeping with CHI St. Alexius Health’s mission of improving the health of those it serves and especially those who are vulnerable, and our commitment to providing safe care for patients and a safe work environment for clinicians and staff, CHI St. Alexius Health is requiring all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by November 1, 2021. This requirement also includes all physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, volunteers, and others caring for patients within our facility.
April is National Donate Life Month and throughout the month, CHI St. Alexius Health will create awareness about the importance of organ, tissue and eye donation.
Currently more than 3,000 people in North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant and the national waiting list holds the names of more than 108,000 men, women and children. Each day, 22 people die waiting for a life-saving organ transplant and a new name is added to the transplant waiting list every 10 minutes. There are more people waiting for a life-saving transplant than there are donors, making it incredibly important for everyone who supports donation to register. One person can help heal up to 75 lives through organ and tissue donation. Organs that can be donated include heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, pancreas and intestine. Tissues that can be donated to save and heal lives include skin, bone, veins, heart valves, connective tissue and eyes.

Compiled by The Chartis Center for Rural Health, this 11th annual recognition program honors outstanding performance among the nation’s rural hospitals based on the results of the Hospital Strength INDEX®. “This distinction has been a goal of mine since becoming administrator,” said Tod Graeber, Garrison Administrator. “I am very proud of our providers, nurses, and all staff that works hard every day to make our healthcare facility one of the top rural hospitals in the country.”

National Wear Red Day is Friday, February 5, 2021. We encourage our staff and our communities to wear red to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease and save lives. Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of women – and too many women, particularly our youngest most diverse women, remain unaware.

Negotiations move forward regarding opportunity for CHI facilities in North Dakota and Minnesota to join Essentia Health
Essentia Health and CommonSpirit Health have signed a Letter of Intent for CommonSpirit-owned facilities operating under the CHI brand in North Dakota and Minnesota to join Essentia Health. This includes CHI St. Alexius Health in Bismarck, a full-service tertiary hospital and 13 critical access hospitals, along with associated clinics and living communities currently operated by CommonSpirit and CHI Health at Home home health and hospice agencies.
Proud Member of the ND Colorectal Cancer Roundtable
CHI St. Alexius Health is a proud member of the North Dakota Colorectal Cancer Roundtable, a 2020 80% in Every Community National Achievement Award Honoree. North Dakota designated this week as Colorectal Cancer Awareness Week, as we celebrate the North Dakota Colorectal Cancer Roundtable national award and bring CRC screening back into focus in this new pandemic environment.
Colorectal cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S. when men and women are combined, yet it can often be prevented or detected at an early stage. But there is good news: the number of deaths from colorectal cancer has been dropping in both men and women for several decades. One reason, researchers say, is the use of screening colonoscopies to remove colorectal polyps before they develop into cancers, or find cancers earlier when the disease is easier to treat. Another factor is that treatment for colorectal cancer has improved.
