Strengthening Global Health Through Local Generosity: Medical Donations from CHI St. Alexius Health Williston to Cameroon
In a remarkable collaboration bridging continents, Dr. Ines Teuma has coordinated a vital donation of medical equipment from CHI St. Alexius Health Williston to the Dschang Regional Hospital Annex in Cameroon, Teuma’s home country. This project reflects a powerful blend of compassion, collaboration and HumanKindness.
Meeting Critical Needs in Cameroon
Founded in 1903, the Dschang Regional Hospital Annex is a cornerstone of healthcare for over 500,000 people in western Cameroon—most of them living in rural areas with limited access to advanced medical services. Despite its long history, the hospital only recently built its first emergency room. Recognizing the urgent need for modern equipment, this hospital was selected as the recipient of critical donations, ensuring that these tools would serve a population where they are needed most.
Powered by a Community of Givers
This project became a reality thanks to Dr. Teuma’s vision and generosity—her deep understanding that equipment no longer in use here, could be life-saving back home in Cameroon, was the spark that set everything in motion.
This life-changing effort was only possible thanks to the leadership and generosity of the CHI St. Alexius Health Williston community and hospital team. This project would not have come to fruition without the support of CHI St. Alexius Health's senior leadership team: Garrick Hyde, Hospital President, Lorrie Antos, CNO and VP of Patient Care Services and Joseph Rurak, VP of Finance. Dr. Teuma wishes to also acknowledge the operating room department, Craven-Hagen Clinic, the IT department and Paul Shonafelt, the purchasing department, the maintenance department, Johnson Wreh and Pastor Steve for their significant impact on this project. The dedication to service of Dr. Teuma and the CHI St. Alexius Health Williston team went beyond local borders, extending compassion and action to improve healthcare across the globe.
The project also benefitted from the incredible support of others in the community including: Dr. Leszek Jaszczak and the Fairlight staff, The Cameroonian community in Williston, Mark Wrolson and friends, John Kasmer and Mike Ross and many other unsung heroes. Together, this collective of caregivers, professionals, and volunteers proved that meaningful change often starts with small communities acting in unity.
Transforming Care Through Equipment
The donated equipment represents a substantial upgrade for the Dschang facility, offering immediate improvements in diagnostics, maternal health, surgery, emergency care, and more. Before the donation, outdated surgical beds and respiratory machines limited the quality of care. In stark contrast, the new devices will allow for safer, more efficient procedures and faster recovery.

A Vision for Continued Impact
This donation is more than a delivery of supplies—it’s a message of Humankindness. CHI St. Alexius Health also wishes to thank Dr. Ines Teuma for spearheading this project and identifying how valuable these supplies and equipment would be to the Dschang Regional Hospital Annex. They also extend gratitude to the generous donors of the CHI St. Alexius Health Williston Foundation. Without their generous support we would not be able to purchase the industry leading equipment that replaced the equipment they were able to pass on to their friends in Cameroon.
