Virtual Quick Care

CHI St. Alexius Health is proud to offer Virtual Quick Care, a new service offered to new and current patients in North Dakota.

Our licensed health care providers can assess symptoms and diagnose minor illnesses and injuries over the phone or via video– all from the comfort of your own home, office, car or wherever your need arises!

Services focus on diagnosis and treatment of simple, common conditions. Whenever you need treatment for minor illnesses like sore throats, sinus infections, coughs and allergies, consider receiving that care from the comfort of your own home.

  • Available 7 a.m. - 10 p.m. via MyChart and phone
  • No appointment necessary
  • Visits take 30 minutes or less
  • Access your after visit summary, health information, lab results and patient education in MyChart
  • Staffed by a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner with physician oversight
  • Notes for work or school can be provided in MyChart based on your virtual visit, if necessary
  • Schedule a follow-up visit with primary care, if necessary through MyChart
  • Most major insurances accepted. If billed to insurance, visit billed at a rate of $129. Otherwise a cash pay fee of $45 will apply.

Please note that not all health conditions are able to be evaluated or treated virtually. In these instances, the provider may direct you to complete your visit at an appropriate in-person care facility.

How-to Tips for Virtual Visits

Equipment

  • Make sure you have a strong WiFi connection
  • Plug in to a power source to prevent battery failure
  • Check the audio/video on your device (smartphone, laptop or tablet)
  • Adjust the camera so your face is visible
  • Consider using earbuds for ease of hearing
  • Close other programs so you have streaming bandwidth
  • Silence your notifications to prevent interruptions

Setting

  • Choose a private space with good lighting
  • If others are home, ask for no interruptions
  • Turn off the TV, radio or other distractions
  • Have your child present if the visit is for them
  • Do NOT have a Virtual Quick Care visit while:
    • Driving
    • Shopping
    • Walking or exercising
    • Outdoors in a windy area

Exam

  • Prepare for your visit by writing down:
    • Symptom details (how severe, how long, any changes)
    • Medication names/doses (or have bottles on hand to show the camera)
    • Medication allergies
  • You may be asked to:
    • Open your mouth and shine a flashlight on your throat
    • Feel your abdomen to see if it hurts
    • Show your rash, if you have one
    • Breathe in/out to check for respiratory distress
  • If you have devices available, you may be asked to:
    • Take your temperature with a thermometer
    • Check your heart rate with a smart watch
    • Weigh yourself on a scale
    • Check your blood pressure with a blood pressure cuff
    • Check your blood sugar with a glucometer

Behavior

  • All virtual visits should be mutually respectful
  • Visits will be ended abruptly for disrespectful/inappropriate behavior
  • Anyone bieng disrespectful/inappropriate may be dismissed from the clinic
